How do I configure my long run to be scheduled at the weekend?

Due to the constraints of life, many runners prefer their longest run on a Saturday or Sunday, and we understand that. However, TrainAsONE designs your plan dynamically around your constraints for optimal progress towards your goal, which might not fall in line with the above wishes. To address this, here is a more detailed explanation of our approach and how you can influence where your longer runs are scheduled:

TrainAsONE's Approach to Planning

Our system aims to build the most effective plan for you by carefully balancing training volume, the mix of workout types, and your stated availability to train. This ensures efficient performance improvement while keeping injury risk low.

Because of this, a simple 'schedule my long run on Sunday' feature (while conventional) is rarely optimal, and not straightforward to achieve:

  • How do you define a 'long run', as there are different views?

  • The 'ideal' length and type of a run can change depending on the day it falls, your recent training, and your overall plan.

  • For example, if a 75-minute run is optimal on a Tuesday (and you're available), that's where it should be placed. Moving it to Saturday might mean that specific run should ideally be longer or shorter, and it would also impact the structure of your other workouts.

  • Making the weekend long run the fixed point can lead to a less effective overall plan (even if this is the traditional approach!).

How to Guide TrainAsONE Towards Weekend Long Runs

You can encourage TrainAsONE to schedule your longer efforts on the weekend by adjusting your training availability settings:

Step 1: Adjust Weekday Availability

The most effective way is to limit your maximum available training time on the weekdays where you'd prefer your runs to be shorter:

  • Head to your Training Settings (look for the 'cog' icon, in the top-right of the screen).

  • For each weekday you want to keep shorter, set a specific maximum run duration (e.g., 45 minutes). This tells the system it needs to schedule longer runs on other days (like your weekend) where you have more time available.

Step 2: Manage Weekend Workout Types (If Needed)

The above approach might still schedule a speed session on a weekend. If you prefer your weekends to be for easy longer runs only, you could also mark the weekend days as easy runs only (select custom from the schedule workouts option, and then tick include easy workouts).

By using these settings, you can guide the AI to create a plan that aims for optimal results, still within your preferred structure.

If you choose to restrict weekends to 'easy runs only', please be aware this will prevent the system from scheduling long runs that incorporate faster sections. Consequently, it is a good idea to only use this setting temporarily during the earlier stages of training towards a specific goal.
