What does the lock/unlock button do on the Next Workout card?

By Dr. Sean Radford • 12th October 2026 (Updated 15th October 2026)

The padlock switch in the bottom bar of the Next Workout card locks and unlocks the day the card is showing. It works exactly like the padlock on a day in your Training Calendar.

Locking the day

  • Click the closed padlock to lock the day. TrainAsONE will keep that day exactly as it is when your plan next updates.
  • Locking does not rebuild your plan, and nothing changes straight away — it takes effect at your next plan update.
  • A locked day is tinted and shows a closed padlock.

Unlocking the day

  • Click the open padlock to unlock the day, so it is free to change again at the next plan update.

Depending on the day, the card's bottom bar can also show:

  • I cannot run on this day — mark the day as a rest day (does not rebuild your plan).
  • Let TrainAsONE plan this day — ask TrainAsONE to schedule a run on that day.
  • Release rolling lock — shown when a rolling lock is active; releases the rolling lock so its days are free to change again.

For locking or releasing a whole range of days, use the padlock menu in the Training Calendar toolbar, which offers Lock days and Unlock days.

Tip: Locking is useful in the run-up to a race, when you do not want any last-minute changes. Remember to unlock afterwards so the AI can adjust your recovery and post-race training.

Note: the card withholds the padlock and the per-day buttons on a race day and on a day whose run is already behind you — there is nothing to freeze or change. See How is a race day shown in my training plan?.
